Teatro Valle Inclán
A unique and modern theatre with functional spaces in the centre of the city.
The Teatro Valle Inclán is a publicly owned theatre managed by the Centro Drámatico Nacional on behalf of the Ministry of Culture. Located in the central Plaza de Lavapiés, it is housed in a modern building that was inaugurated in 2006 on the site of the former Olympia Theatre which was built in 1926.
The exterior façade is characterised by its large windows and the fragmented volumes of the elements that make up the building whose triangular form opens out over the busy square.
It has two modern stages. The compact Main Theatre has a capacity of 510 seats, of which 130 are laid out on a retractable tribune. A versatile space whose stage can be extended seamlessly towards the interior of the theatre thanks to a series of mobile platforms that make it possible to integrate the theatre floor into the stage or to vary its slope.
On the first floor we find the Teatro Francisco Nieva, laid out in the Italian manner with a maximum capacity of 150 spectators. It is a diaphanous room with dimensions similar to those of the stage in the main theatre, which means it can be used both for small-format performances or to prepare stage productions.
The spaces are completed by the Teatro Mirlo Blanco (the White Blackbird Theatre) whose limited capacity makes it useful as a rehearsal room.
