Biblioteca Musical Víctor Espinós
A specialised library in a historical building.
The Víctor Espinós Music Library is located in the Conde Duque Cultural Centre, the former Guard Barracks and the work of architect Pedro Ribera. A building on Calle Conde Duque that is a key example of Madrid’s 18th century architecture, whose spaces are currently given over to various cultural uses.
One of the libraries that it houses was founded in 1919 at the proposal of musicologist Victor Espinós to specialise in the dissemination and promotion of musical education. The library offers a bibliographic collection that specialises in music and features monographs, sheet music, audio-visual and sound recordings on a variety of media. It has a collection of 92,929 works, in addition to some 329 musical instruments that are on loan to the library.
It has individual and group rehearsal rooms and booths, and an activities room. Thanks to its large windows there is a remarkable play of light and shadow on the various spaces and on the staircase.
