Calle de Las Huertas
Calle de las Huertas is a long pedestrian street in the historical Barrio de Las Letras (Literary Quarter). This central and historical area of Madrid was once home to some of the leading figures of the Spanish Golden Age such as Lope de Vega, Francisco de Quevedo and Miguel de Cervantes.
As we walk along, we come across verses by different writers set out in golden letters on the red and grey toned pavement, and there are small trees on both sides. As for the buildings, the Palace of the Dukes of Santoña (now the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce) stands out.
On a slight slope and with numerous historical brick buildings in Neoclassical and Neo-Mudéjar styles, Calle de Las Huertas is known nowadays for its wealth of small shops, bars and restaurants and its lively nightlife.
