Universidad Carlos III – Campus de Puerta de Toledo
A university campus in an old renovated market.
The Puerta de Toledo Campus of the Carlos III University of Madrid is located in the old Puerta de Toledo market, with a surface area of 25,000 square metres, designed by architects Ricardo Aroca, Manuel Domínguez and Jesús Peñalba.
Divided into four floors, the building has a functional structure, featuring granite marble and stainless steel, creating various courtyards and arcades on the lower floors with cement beams and pillars.
The rationalist architecture of the 1930s has been conserved. On one of the campus’s façades, Portuguese artist Vhils has created a huge, 64-metre mural, in homage to José Saramago. This Madrid campus completes the teaching facilities of the Carlos III University, together with those in Getafe, Leganés and Colmenarejo.
