Castillo de Viñuelas
An historic castle in a beautiful natural setting.
Viñuelas Castle is a fortified palace within the Soto de Viñuelas protected nature reserve, integrated in the Regional Park of the Upper Manzanares River Basin, which is inside the municipality of Madrid. There are two separate spaces: the Grounds and the Castle.
The Castle Grounds is a large natural environment that covers 32 hectares, criss-crossed by streams. The estate comprises an oak forest, surrounded by a stone wall, with numerous areas of special interest such as gullies or natural springs.
Dating from the 17th century, the Castle building has since been refurbished for use as a venue for celebrations and events. With a square floor-plan and built in covered brick, the front of the building stands out for its ornamentation. There is a balcony on the first floor that rests on columns, thereby creating a portico. The image of the exterior is completed by four round towers each with four floors. In its interior it has a wide variety of halls and gardens that afford different atmospheres.
The adjoining buildings are of particular note because of two spaces:
- The rustic Hunting Lodge, with its spacious halls, huge brick domes, and gardens.
- The Fuente Tena Pavilion, with the Hall of Columns which leads to a beautiful garden, and the magnificently lit Glazed Patio, which lead to another garden with extensive green areas. There is a greenhouse, an auditorium for 200 people and several multi-purpose rooms.
