Exteriores Edificio Pórtico

A glass office building with a unique structure.

The Pórtico building is in the neighbourhood of Piovera, next to the M-40 ring road and Campo de las Naciones Shopping Centre. Avenida de los Andes, a wide avenue, is the administrative boundary between the neighbourhoods of Piovera and Palomas, located in a residential setting that leads to this service area. The building stands here as the gateway to the Campo de las Naciones business and office area.

Designed by the architecture studios Som Architects and Rafael de la Hoz, it’s a seven-storey office building constructed in 2003 with a glazed, grid-like structure. Its singularity arises from the additional roof made of metal slats which hangs over the entire perimeter of the building and is supported by four cylindrical pillars. This overhang is complemented by stainless-steel bands pulled taught from the ground up in front of the eastern and western façades, which act as sunshades.

The land in the surrounding area is used for various tertiary purposes. There are district sports facilities and a rugby pitch, as well as the nearby Juan Pablo II Park and the cycle path with its own bridge which is part of the Green Cycling Ring.
