Hotel Vincci Capitol

A singular hotel with a cinematic theme in an iconic building on Gran Vía avenue.

The Carrión building, also known as the Capitol building, is one of the most iconic examples of Madrid’s civil architecture, and one of Gran Vía’s most representative constructions. The original design for the Art Deco-style building, constructed between 1931 and 1933, envisaged a multipurpose edifice containing flats, a hotel, offices, a restaurant, a café and a cinema such as Cine Capitol, which is still located on the ground floor.

The Vincci Capitol hotel occupies the space intended for accommodation, with an establishment that respects the building’s historic tradition. Painstaking remodelling works preserved original elements like the 1930s staircase, which still has its original flooring and banister, and the copper bar. These elements are combined with more avant-garde decor, making Vincci Capitol a perfect blend of the classicism and modernity that befit a four-star hotel.

The first floor is the heart of the hotel. Accessible by lift and located in the building’s chamfer, it’s where the breakfast buffet, which offers views of the entire avenue of Gran Vía, can be found. The hotel has 140 guest rooms, including some particularly unique rooms featuring film-inspired elements which are carefully decorated with cinema motifs or motifs that recreate scenes from classic movies, alongside colourful designer furniture.

Also worth a special mention are the Skylight rooms, which are just behind the building’s famous neon sign, and the Capitol Suite, on one of the hotel’s highest floors. Located near the building’s tower, it has a spectacular balcony that overlooks Gran Vía.

The hotel has balconies on both sides of the building which offer panoramic views of different parts of the century-old thoroughfare. The solarium features an exclusive bar service and views of Madrid de los Austrias (Hapsburg Madrid). Terraza Mirador, a terrace overlooking Gran Vía, offers a different prospect of the city’s heights, from the Torre de Madrid skyscraper and the España building to Cuatro Torres Business Area and even the Guadarrama Mountains.
