A large railway station with historical architecture and unique spaces

The Railway Museum is a cultural entity dependant on the Spanish Railways Foundation, located in the passenger building of the former Delicias station. Inaugurated in 1880, it was the first monumental station to be built in Madrid and it is a magnificent example of iron architecture, thanks to its riveted iron structure, a representative material of 19th century architecture.

Its purpose is to showcase Spain’s railway heritage, and to that end there is an area with platforms and historical rolling stock, spaces that are much sought after as filming locations and as venues for all sorts of events. The Museum has four multipurpose spaces: the Central Nave, the Arganzuela Room (500 square metres), the Mansarda Room (110 square metres) and the Auditorium (155 square metres). Another unique place is the Nave de Fomento (525 square metres), an open-plan, industrial-style warehouse.

The Railway Museum also has vintage vehicles that can also be used for events within the facilities. This inventory includes four “Costa” type third-class carriages with wooden bodywork, five restaurant cars, a ZZ saloon car, a metal passenger car with eight departments, a freight wagon and a luggage car.
