Parque Madrid Río

A large park along the river with numerous nature and recreational areas

The Madrid Río Park is an enormous, elongated park along the Manzanares river. It is structured around nine areas of reference:

  • The tree-lined promenade called the Salón de Pinos, which runs through the entire park.
  • Six landscaped areas located from north to south: the gardens of Aniceto Marinas, Virgen del Puerto, Puente de Segovia, Puente de Toledo, Matadero and Parque de Arganzuela.
  • The Avenida de Portugal boulevard, which extends the park to the east.
  • The Huerta de la Partida, which links the park to the Casa de Campo Park.

It has numerous historic monuments and leisure facilities along the river, including 17 playground areas, built using sustainable and natural materials, such as wood and hemp rope, creating swings, climbing frames, hammocks, hanging bridges and climbing ropes.

There is water along the entire stretch, thanks to the Manzanares river, which following its restoration, once again has an interesting fauna.

The park also has several ornamental fountains and historic bridges, like the Puente de Segovia, Puente del Rey and Puente de Toledo. These historic elements alternate with contemporary bridges like Puente Oblicuo, the twin bridges of Matadero and Invernadero and the avant-garde Puente Monumental de Arganzuela bridge, designed by Dominique Perrault.
