Plaza Mayor de Barajas
Plaza Mayor de Barajas was built in 1616 following the pattern for Spanish Renaissance public squares that were commissioned during the reign of Philip II.
The square graces the old historic centre of the town of Barajas which is now one of the city’s municipal districts. It has been restored on several occasions but it nevertheless retains certain original structures that make it a historical vestige.
It is formed by a rectangular structure of pedestrian streets and porticoes crowned by dark wooden beams. Granite columns with Tuscan-style shafts support wooden lintels on large beams.
A Renaissance square that is currently occupied by shops, bars and restaurants. The square is open to traffic and parking is allowed on three of its four sides.
