Puente Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga
A viaduct over the Paseo de la Castellana which connects main roads.
The Enrique de la Mata Gorostizaga Bridge is a viaduct that negotiates the slope over which Paseo de la Castellana passes perpendicularly. Known as the Juan Bravo Bridge or the Eduardo Dato Bridge due to the fact that it connects these two streets, it is 320 metres in length, 16 metres wide, and it slopes downwards.
It is characterised by the use of Corten steel and white concrete and it incorporates interesting aesthetic details such as the iron railings in the shape of an «O», which are the work of the sculptor Eusebio Sempere.
Since 1972 it has been home to the Open Air Museum of abstract sculpture that was completed in 1978 with the installation of Eduardo Chillida’s The Stranded Mermaid (Encounters III).
From the bridge you can see the Bermejillo Palace, built at the beginning of the 20th century and the current headquarters of the Ombudsman, which stands in stark contrast to the modern offices of the Mutua Madrileña company.
