Teatro Coliseum
The Teatro Coliseum is a performance space located in the Coliseum Building, an architectural jewel located in the heart of Gran Vía Avenue. Down through the years the building, built in the 1930s and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC, by its Spanish acronym), has managed to maintain the elements that make it one of the most important Art Deco works in Madrid.
On the lower floor of the building we find the theatre. The refurbishment it underwent in 2017 preserved its classical style and the decorative elements in its interior. Worthy of mention are the stained glass, the allegoric paintings of Castile and Valencia in the theatre and the foyer, and the copper lights decorated with traditional Spanish musical instruments.
It has a capacity for 1,400 people distributed among the stalls and two upper floors, which are decorated in shades of red. It has been home to such great musical productions as My Fair Lady, Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago and Hair.
