Viviendas El Ruedo
Social housing with an original architectural design.
The El Ruedo housing development is an immense block of flats with a highly originally design in the district of Moratalaz. This social housing project was designed by architect Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oiza and built between 1986 and 1989 in order to rehouse families from the shantytown known as El Pozo del Huevo in the Villa de Vallecas district.
A block of helical flats with an encompassing structure decorated with colourful geometric motifs on the inside and red brick on the outside, somewhat akin to a bullring.
Inside the complex, which is accessed by a series of pedestrian tunnels and walkways, we find a garden area with a football pitch, a small children’s playground and wooden benches.
