Barrio de la Concepción
This neighbourhood was the first large-scale private housing development in Madrid, after a series of public developments that attempted to solve the housing problems after the Civil War. Planned in 1948 on land in the municipality of Canillas, almost 3,000 houses were built in the area.
Its elongated rectangular layout allows for open blocks.
The neighbourhood is divided by a north-south artery, with low-rise and taller buildings with enclosed courtyards. The estate also has a 16-storey tower block that was added in the final phase, the only high-rise building in the area.
