The historic centre of the town of Fuencarral
The old town of Fuencarral was incorporated into Madrid in 1951. Its historic quarter has preserved its essence, with low-rise houses and narrow streets. It is currently part of the Valverde neighbourhood.
Casa Grande or López de Ortega Palace is located in the historic centre of Fuencarral. It is a manor house from the mid-17th century, a stately leisure and agricultural complex whose surface area originally exceeded 2,500 square metres. It has a quadrangular layout, with towers at the corners around a central courtyard, which preserves its porticoed structure with stone and wooden columns.
Fuencarral also preserves San Miguel Arcángel Parish Church, which dates from the mid-16th century. It underwent a major extension and renovation in 1770, when it took on its present form: a basilica-style nave with a transept and side chapels.
