Cementerio Cristo de El Pardo

Cristo de El Pardo Municipal Cemetery is the second smallest cemetery in Madrid and one of the oldest in Spain. It was established in 1775 by order of Charles III as a burial ground for the Capuchin friars who lived in the adjacent Convent of Christ. Due to the many changes the cemetery has undergone over the years, no remains of those early burials have survived: the oldest date back to the early 1900s. What has survived is an old stone Cross in the centre of the cemetery, most likely on the site of the original entrance. There is also a small and generally poorly maintained civil cemetery within its interior.
