Colonia Valderrivas

A distinctive private development built in 1964 primarily to house the engineers who worked in the booming cement industry in the Vicálvaro area.

It stands out for its attention to landscaping, urban planning and horticultural criteria. “The architectures that could be considered as benchmarks are to be found in the suburbs of large Californian cities, such as Los Angeles, which was a milestone in the professional panorama of the time. The use of exposed brick walls alternating with others covered with mortar, the original slopes of the land left free in some places and enclosed with walls in others, or the presence of large overhanging terraces are elements of an extraordinarily fresh architectural discourse” (COAM Architecture Foundation).

Today, the proliferation of fences, gates and other security features has compromised its landscape character.
