Exteriores del Hospital 12 de Octubre
The Hospital 12 de Octubre complex is made up of three large buildings, the General Residence, the Maternal and Children’s Hospital and the Outpatient Activities Centre, along with a technical facilities block, a teaching centre, an experimental research centre and three specialist centres.
From the outside, you can see the different architectural styles of the complex, reflecting the changes in hospital design over the decades since it was inaugurated in 1973.
The complex’s oldest building, the Old Social Security Healthcare Residence, is the inpatient building and an example of traditional red-brick architecture with 15 floors and three basement levels. Over the years, old buildings have been demolished to make way for the Maternal and Children’s Hospital with its semicircular façade and the latest addition, the modern Outpatient Activities Centre, which consists of large concrete blocks with large windows which fill its six floors with light.
This healthcare complex is closely associated with research and training and includes the old single-floored teaching centre, which stands out due to its ochre colour. The exterior is completed with large gardens, a car park, the platforms of the Metro and the local railway service, and even a heliport.
