Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto

Gran Vía begins where it converges with Calle Alcalá, and ends in Plaza de España. It is one of the most important and famous streets in Madrid. Built in sections between 1910 and 1931, its construction spanned almost 30 years, which has lent to the variety of architectural styles present along each section:

• The area between Calle de Alcalá and Red de San Luis is lined with historicist buildings that recall the architecture of days gone by.
• From Red de San Luis (where Calle Montera and Gran Vía intersect) to Plaza del Callao.
• From Plaza de Callao to Plaza de España, there are more functional buildings.

Currently, this hundred-year-old avenue, which is busy at all times of the day, has a number of commercial premises and restaurants, theatres and cinemas.

This beautiful, wide avenue, flanked by ornate buildings, is one of the areas of the city most appreciated by and represented in film and the visual arts.
