Plaza del Rey

Plaza del Rey is a highly eclectic paved square close to Gran Vía avenue and Calle de Alcalá.

To the north of the square stands the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, a building that was erected in the last third of the 20th century, whose rhythmic concrete façade stands in bold contrast to the other buildings on the square.

The most important building is the 16th century Casa de las Siete Chimeneas, which today has a row of five free-standing columns along its south façade.

To round off the heterogeneous nature of this singular space, in the centre of the square, amid its landscaped areas, there is an entrance to an underground car park.
