Viviendas Camino de la Vereda

The so-called Vallecas Green Ring Urban Development Plan (PAU), in effect between 1991 and 1992, cleaned up and organised the area with different types of buildings, from linear blocks to irregular blocks that “stitch together the existing single-family homes”, according to the COAM Architectural Foundation.  The plan successfully restored a hitherto disjointed and degraded urban fabric, in which colour plays a fundamental role in differentiating and diversifying the estate itself and in relation to its surroundings.

“The complex becomes a reflection on the extent to which contemporary architecture can integrate with degraded and heterogeneous environments (…). The planned buildings take into account the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of the neighbourhood, embracing the complex and giving it the conceptual unity it lacked.”
