Casco histórico de El Pardo

Two basic types of single-family homes were planned for the new town of El Pardo in 1943. The houses by the river, originally intended for low-income families, have a surface area of 100 m2 on two floors, plus a back garden. The other houses, located opposite the former barracks of Franco’s Personal Guards and intended for the middle classes, have a surface area of around 200 m2 on three floors, plus a back and a front garden.

Both types of houses are built with materials typically used by local architects, such as plastered brick walls and wooden ceilings, with slate roofs and attics. The façades have a simple aesthetic that respects the atmosphere created by El Pardo Royal Palace.

The historic centre of El Pardo also has two important buildings: Casa Infantes and Casita del Príncipe. The first, with four floors and 64 apartments, is the oldest building in El Pardo, after the Palace and the Convent of the Capuchin Fathers. It was built in 1770, although it has been in its present form since 1956.

Casita del Príncipe is a neoclassical palace designed in the second half of the 18th century during the reign of Charles III. It is a small, one-storey building designed for recreational purposes, made of brick and granite and consisting of three projecting sections. It comprises the palace itself and the gardens. Today Paseo de El Pardo runs through the complex, linking the town with Mingorrubio.
