Castillo de Barajas
The Alameda de Osuna neighbourhood is home to the ruins of this castle which was built in 1450. It is also known as the Castle of the Counts of Barajas, of the Zapata Family or of La Alameda. The building belonged to the noble family of Don Francisco Zapata de Cisneros (1520-1594), Count of Barajas: of his many properties, only the ruins of his castle remain. These ruins are the only ones of their kind in the Madrid region.
Although the chronicles speak of a fine castle, repaired with lime and mortar, with a moat and towers, it has long since been demolished and only an incomplete thick square wall and the ruins of a tower in one of its corners remain. There are a number of cannon embrasures in the castle walls.
