Colonia de los Almendrales
The Almendrales neighbourhood is located in the Usera district, between Avenida de Córdoba, Hospital 12 de Octubre and Usera hill.
When construction of the Almendrales housing estate began in 1941, the aim was to provide better housing for the many families living in the area. It consists of low-cost clusters of houses, the first of which were built between 1941 and 1944. In addition to preparing the land and providing infrastructure, 417 houses, a chapel, a medical centre and schools were built on adjacent land.
The single-family homes were arranged in thirteen blocks that followed the slope of the hillside, leaving courtyards in the interior. Following the transformation of the neighbourhood that began in the 1980s, only the layout and some facilities remain.
